Mountaineering Lvl 1 Yatsugatake, March 20-21

Mountaineering Lvl 1 Yatsugatake – This training/tour is in Japanese/English, with our AMCG / JMGA guides. Mountains are always weather dependent, you will complete training and be prepared to make a summit push in winter conditions unless extreme weather to – Kitayokodake, Yatsugatake Ropeway OR TenguDake, Yatsugatake ranges where you will climb to summits over 2,400m.

Snow School Training:
Movement on snow – Use of Ice Axe – Self Arrests – Crampon work on snow and rock.
Mountaineering gear use, reading weather & planning trip, how and what to pack.
Introduction for avalanche awareness, basic rope use and knots, map reading and navigation, emergency procedures.

DAY 01 09:00
Meetup, briefing and gear check. Start approach to lodge.
Snow School Training: Covering all basic mountaineering techniques for day 02 summit. Dinner and early night at lodge with review of Day 02 plan.
** Please pack lunch, drinks and snacks for both days
DAY 02 06:00
Early start with breakfast, to make a push from lodge to the summit, descend & arrive before dark (17:00)
Group training up to 4 people / per instructor
Suitable for beginners 0-3 times mountain climbing

GEAR CHECKLIST: 
• Crampons Steel, 10-12 point
• Mountaineering ice axe, average 50cm+ length
• Trekking pole(s) with snow basket
• Climbing harness (alpine style – non freeze)
• Climbing helmet
• Mountaineering Boots (must be compatible with your crampons)
• Daypack* (30-40 litres)
• Thermos with hot water (1litres)
Sundries – Sunglasses, Sunscreen, SPF lip balm, Compact Camera (not full DLSR), Headlamp (with fresh batteries),
Optional – Compass, Earplugs, Blister First aid kit (Our guides carry a first aid kit)

CLOTHING CHECKLIST:
• Long base layer (underwear) top and bottoms (light weight synthetic/wool)
• Socks 2 pairs (synthetic/wool)
• Light synthetic mid-layer shirt
• Soft shell pants (mountaineer pants usually come with reinforced knees, chaps, seat)
• Mid-weight synthetic or (450+) down jacket
• Heavy-weight insulated jacket (750+ down)
• Waterproof hardshell jacket with hood
• Waterproof hardshell pants (should have a full-length side zip so they can be put on without taking off boots and crampons)
• Waterproof gaiters (big enough to fit over large boots)
• Waterproof mountaineering gloves (two pairs – ideally one waterproof & one extra warm) / liner gloves
• Warm hat
• Neck warmer / buff
Optional – warm booties for night, warm dry layers for night, balaclava, sunhat (depending on weather),
