Welcome in Spring snow conditions for this course – you will learn to recognise different conditions to mid-winter with possible freeze-thaw isothermic snow and many point release avalanches due to the heat. Likely the final AST1 for the season outside of Tateyama and Hokkaido!
Avalanche Skills Training 1 ‘AST1’, is the first step for anyone interested to or already stepping into potential avalanche terrain – back or side country, out of bounds, off resort and touring. If you don’t have avalanche skills training – it is a MUST!
Learn online theory of avalanche terrain, trip planning, reading avalanche reports and risk mitigation, in-person field training using your avalanche transceiver, probe and shovel and finally AST1+ component offers planning and participating in a full day guided tour with our avalanche expert.
Course Duration: 2 Days
Course Fee: ¥47,500 full price
Course Equipment: Touring Skis / Splitboard / Snowshoes & avalanche kit *Rental package available
Pre-Requisites: Competent skiing off-piste and progressing into BC touring
Progression: Level up to AST2 – Advanced Avalanche Skills Training / 4 days
Please note:
This course is run with 1 instructor on both days for capacity of 8 people.
Course format:
|This course is a ‘hybrid’ course, taking 2 days in person + pre-study and live theory lesson online (approx 5-6hrs total).
Meeting Location:
Day 01 – Theory and field training at Akakan Kanko Resort, meet near gondola station at ‘Bread & Table’ : https://maps.app.goo.gl/3viwPcbUTnNXZLhn9
Day 02 – Will be decided based on weather, however expect to meet early to take gondola to access backcountry from resort.
Gear & Rental:
It is required to have 1 avalanche set (¥4,000) : Pack,Probe,Shovel & Transceiver (Beacon)
Touring sets (ski and split-board) are ¥15,000 for the 2 days course
