AST2 Feb 23-26 Hakuba – Official Avalanche Canada Course from a certified Operator & Instructor.
Our AST2 is carefully designed as a comprehensive knowledge, skills & experiential course that engages our students to learn in detail all factors of daily BC touring in avalanche terrain. From trip planning, observational information, in-field testing, terrain navigation, decision making, advanced search+rescue skills and ever important – the human factor. Advance your backcountry skills, safety and group leadership in every way while you partake in this customised in-depth 4 day avalanche training. There will be a mix of theory and field training combined with tours throughout the 4 days, the areas to tour will be decided prior to each day.

Meeting Location Day 01: 08:30 Wing 21, Hakuba  ( Google Map )
Schedule (may vary): Meeting at 07:30 to approx 17:00 each day
Times will vary based on weather and touring plan // for example some days may expect to meet 07:00 to travel to touring location and others may run later to 17:30 . These changes will be advised the day prior to make the most of the time!
Prepare:
 Come with all of your usual backcountry kit for everyday including lunch / snacks / drinks

Details:
AST1 is an introductory step to give a wide portion of knowledge and awareness across many avalanche related factors in the shorter 2 days (+ online) training.
You will receive the AST online refresher training 1 week prior to the AST2 (taking approx 5hrs to complete)

As such it only scrapes the tip of the iceberg to introduce the critical information without overloading participants.
AST2, over 4 days (plus online prep), goes deep into each pillar of information, delivering a comprehensive understanding of avalanche factors to every participant.

• Learn advanced search techniques & transceiver modes
• Organise & Lead a Multi-Companion Burial
• Understand the Processes of Extrication & Rescue
• Push into wider variety of terrain with stronger skill sets

Course Equipment: Touring Skis / Split-board / avalanche kit – Transceiver (New Generation 3 antenna), Probe, Shovel
(Snowshoes are not permitted on this course)

Pre-Requisites*: If you are uncertain about your ability to attend – please contact us before booking.
• Regular BackCountry Touring – 4-5 times per season
• Strong skiing off-piste & Deep Powder
• High level of fitness (can climb 800m elevation each day for 4 days)
* If it is deemed your ability is not up to standard for this course, for safety and flow of course you may be removed from the course without reimbursement
