BC INTRO Hakuba Feb 16 – Our Backcountry Introduction course is basically like an ‘AST LITE’ version, for people who want to have a shorter, more affordable introduction to touring and safety gear – ideally have tried touring or can at least ride comfortably off=piste.

More specifically wanting to understand more for safety and enjoyment to be comfortable. Running through basics of using avalanche safety equipment – transceiver, shovel, probe & how to perform a burial search and companion rescue.

Then to talk about weather and avalanche system observations for planning touring routes, touring up from resorts and refine skills of riding as a group safely. Learn safe travel techniques and the principles of snow observation and get used to transitions and riding nice, safe lines down.

A soft introduction and learning day tour to experience backcountry touring, learn the basics, safety and help progress your off-piste skills
Specially developed to be accessible for anyone interested in giving ski/snowboard touring a go – learn on the snow with us and take the pressure off joining to keep up with more advanced crew

Consider it a full day divided in half of – skills training and short tour with a good debrief and Q&A at the end.
Find out if backcountry touring is for you and then progress on to a full AST training and tour in the future – but at least pick up the key safety aspects to get out on the snow and know how to use your gear.

Its a fun light day to simply get out and enjoy otherwise with a group of people around different locations – Myoko, Hakuba, Nozawa, Yusawa and more!

Pre-Requisites: Competent skiing/riding on-piste (not for beginners)
Progression: Next level up to AST1+ Avalanche Skills Training / 2 days
